On April 21 and 22 of 2012, the two day International Space App Challenge (ISAC) will take place in different cities around the world. The purpose: create and innovate smart solutions to global problems regarding space exploration and social needs.
According to the organizers, “citizens from around the world will work together to solve current challenges relevant to both space exploration and social need.”
The event will take place in seven continents, in cities like San Francisco, USA; Tokyo, Japan; Melbourne and Canberra, Australia; Nairobi, Kenya; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; and McMurdo Station, Antarctica. The event will also involve astronauts and cosmonauts from the International Space Station (ISS).
The participants will work in teams, and they will propose ideas and develop apps to solve a particular challenge using minimal resources. The challenges are divided into four categories,
