According to NASA, the Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS), which is expected to reenter Earth’s atmosphere sometime in the afternoon of September 23, Eastern Daylight Time, will not be flying over the United States at that time. Time and location of reentry will be predicted with more accuracy during the next 24 hours, but the precise location will not be known until the last two hours before impact.

UARS, which has been photographed by a French amateur astrophotographer, is currently thumbing while it approaches the lower layers of Earth’s atmosphere. The trajectory of the spacecraft can be tracked on aero website.
