500 Meter Asteroid Breezes by Earth

Asteroid 2012 LZ1 was discovered on the evening of June 10 2012, just a few days before its June 14 closest approach. Although technically on the potentially hazardous asteroid list, the 500 m asteroid posed no danger to Earth on this flyby at 14 lunar distances from the planet.

The Slooh Space Camera in the Canary Islands streamed live footage of the closest approach, which was visible with a 10 inch camera from most of the globe. The asteroid will be visible for about another week before passing out of sight. Below is footage Slooh capture on June 13:
