Solar Storms Pass Harmlessly

From February 23 to February 24, five solar storms released high energy particles out into the solar system. Two of the storms released coronal mass ejections in the direction of Earth. By February 26, all danger of geomagnetic fall-out was past with only some heightened aurorae as proof of the storms’ passing.

The video below, courtesy of NASA, shows a close-up of the magnetic solar filament that erupted on February 24.  Notice closer to the surface the solar atmosphere splits and waves of solar material fan out in opposite directions from the split (almost 248,500 miles long), like tsunami waves. This eruption hurled a coronal mass ejection in the direction of Earth. This video ranges from Feb 23 22:32:44 to Feb 24 04:31:32 UT.
